König von Kreuzberg is the title of a relatively unsuccessful eight-part German television series by Tobias Salfeld (book) and Jan Becker (director) from 2005. It is the first ethno - sitcom to be produced in Germany based on American series such as Die Bill-Cosby- Show .

The first episode of the comedy series was broadcast on April 8, 2005 in the Friday evening program of Sat.1 on the popular 9:45 pm slot. From June 10, it was moved to the station's night program.

The central location of the series is a kebab shop in Berlin-Kreuzberg , the main character is his sympathetic "junior boss" Attila Mellek, who is always ready to help others (family and friends) with all imaginable everyday problems and does not even manage his own shop gets.

Quota

With 1.48 million viewers (corresponds to a market share of 4.9 percent), the comedy series did not meet the broadcasting company's quota in any way. After two more episodes, in which the desired success was still not achieved, the series was moved to the night program.

meaning

Despite its relative unsuccessfulness, the series is not insignificant for the history of German television, as it was the first attempt at a German-Turkish ethno-comedy with a continuous storyline - a format that was already featured in the following year with Alle liebe Jimmy ( RTL ) and Turkish for Beginners ( ARD ) was very successful in Germany, at least from the point of view of criticism.
