The Queen Sophie Chapel is one of the 19 chapels that surround the Kraków Cathedral . It is also called the seminar chapel. It is consecrated to the Holy Trinity.
history
The chapel was built by Queen Sophie Holszańska between 1431 and 1432 . donated to the fourth wife of King Ladislaus II Jagiełło . She was also buried in the chapel. The vault was decorated with Byzantine frescoes by Ruthenian painters. At the beginning of the 17th century - around 1613 to 1615 - the chapel was rebuilt in the early Baroque style as a burial chapel for Bishop Piotr Tylicki by Fryderyk Szembek , whereby the Byzantine frescoes were initially preserved. In 1830 the tomb for Włodzimierz Potocki by Bertel Thorvaldsen was built in the chapel , on which Potocki is depicted as a Greek hoplite. Thorvaldsen also created the relief of the death genius in the chapel. Between 1836 and 1844 the chapel was rebuilt again, this time by Francesco Maria Lanci . Adam Tadolini and Luigi Pampaloni created the tomb of Anna Potocka and Dominico Cardelli that of their mother Konstancja Poniatowska . The last time the chapel was remodeled between 1899 and 1904, this time by Sławomir Odrzywolski . Włodzimierz Tetmajer created the new frescoes and stained glass windows in Art Nouveau style.
