The Royal Marstall was a four-winged stable in Dresden in the Wilsdruffer suburb . The facility was limited by Ostra-Allee , Devrientstraße and Am Zwinger . The Duchess Garden and the Zwinger were in the immediate vicinity .

From 1745 to 1748 the stables were built to house the horses, as the old stables in the Johanneum were rebuilt to house the picture gallery . From 1794 to 1795, Christian Traugott Weinlig added the riding hall in the classicist style . This single-storey northwest wing was 80 meters long and 20 meters wide. On the courtyard side, the riding hall was decorated with reliefs by Franz Pettrich over the windows and in the gable .

In 1832 Joseph Thürmer redesigned the side wings and the front to become the Zwingerteich. In 1925 there were plans to convert the Marstall into a museum complex for the Dresden Natural Science Museums. These plans did not materialize. The Marstall was partially destroyed in the air raids on Dresden in February 1945. The building, which was rebuilt by Gerhard Guder after 1950 , was integrated into the theater workshops of the Schauspielhaus .
