Christian Traugott Weinlig
Christian Traugott Weinlig (born January 31, 1739 in Dresden ; † November 25, 1799 ibid) was a German architectural theorist , architect and construction clerk .
Life
The son of the Dresden city councilor Christian Weinlig (1681–1762) received his training after his mason apprenticeship with the Oberlandbaumeister Julius Heinrich Schwarze and entered the Saxon civil service in 1760 as an employee of the later Oberlandbaumeister Christian Friedrich Exner (1718–1798). From 1766–70 he went to Paris and Rome, where he met Johann Joachim Winckelmann . The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna accepted him as a member in 1771.
After his return from Italy, Weinlig became the Saxon supervisory paymaster or supervisor in 1773 and court architect in 1793. The plans for the interior of the Prinz-Max-Palais (1783) and the riding hall of the Royal Marstall (1794–95) on Ostra-Allee in Dresden , for the extension of the Berg- und Wasserpalais and the pavilions in the park come from him of Pillnitz Castle (1788–92) and the renovation of the Augustusburg Hunting Lodge (1797–1801).
Weinlig was married to Johanne Karoline Exner, the daughter of the master builder Exner. He succeeded him in 1799, but died in November of the same year. His grave is located in Dresden's Elias cemetery in the Weinlig family crypt, the tombstone is part of the permanent exhibition in the palace in the Great Garden .
