Königsbank in Altensteig

The so-called Königsbank in Altensteig , a town in the Calw district in Baden-Württemberg , was probably fitted with a backrest with an inscription on the older bench in 1862 or shortly afterwards in memory of the visit of King Wilhelm I of Württemberg .

The bench made of sandstone blocks with a cast-iron plate on the stone backrest has the inscription: "This was the retirement home of the much-loved father King Wilhelm, when he was 81 when he visited Altenstaig on July 11, 1862, when he was 81 years old".

Like most benches, the stone bench at the eastern entrance to the city consists of a low bench and a higher bench for storing loads carried on the back. It is reminiscent of an episode in Altensteiger city history.
