Königsberg learned society

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Königsberg learned society was an academic society of the interwar period in Königsberg (Prussia) . It was founded as part of the Königsberg Kant celebration (1924) . The initiators were Herbert Kraus , Erich Seeberg and Eilhard Alfred Mitscherlich . Divided into a humanities and a natural science class, it was made up of representatives from certain university sciences . It was entirely in line with the East Prussian program .

"The purpose of this foundation was to combine all intellectual work in the constricted province into a solid bulwark of Germanic culture, in order to preserve what we owned and to research what unexploited treasures of old Prussian culture can still be found on East Prussian soil." Problems of this kind concerning East Prussia should be given priority. It almost seemed as if those times would come back when the professors liked to devote themselves to the studies of their homeland, which had probably never rested in the natural sciences, from the investigations into the amber of a Poliander to Hamann's teacher Rappolt and the Hartmanns, or if one thought of the theologian Wigand , who wrote a first Prussian botany, of course only selecting a small part of it. In the humanities, especially in the eighteenth century, history stood almost next to the university, and the linguistic area predominantly occupied the members of the German Society . Now through the new foundation a new place was prepared for all these things. In this context, Walther Ziesemer was able to organize a worthy edition of Simon Dach 's works, just as he initiated the large-scale Prussian dictionary . "
