The Köppen Point is a headland on the north coast of South Georgia . In Royal Bay it marks the northeast side of the entrance to Moltke Harbor .
German scientists of the International Polar Year (1882–1883) gave a hill adjacent to the headland the name Köppenberg . They named it after the German meteorologist and climatologist Wladimir Köppen (1846–1940), who had proposed the establishment of an observatory here. Scientists from the South Georgia Survey decided after measurements between 1951 and 1952 that the hill was too small and insignificant to be named. For reasons of historical continuity of naming, the naming was transferred to the headland described here.
