Kötschau is a district of Großschwabhausen in the Weimarer Land district in Thuringia .

geography

Gut Kötschau is located in the middle of the Weimar and Apolda arable plains. The federal road 7 leads south directly past the hamlet. It connects the cities of Jena and Weimar .

history

Kötschau is an older settlement because it was first mentioned in a document on July 21, 1172. This is also confirmed by the literature references.

The manor house that still exists probably stands on the walls of a former fortified manor house, once surrounded by moats. In 1172 a Gumpert von Kötschau was also mentioned. The castle had protection and control functions over the land and the old road. The University of Jena bought the estate in 1937 Kötschau about the settlement authority from the woman Emma Hempel man. The management was transferred to the Institute for Plant Cultivation and Plant Breeding on June 1, 1937. During the GDR era, Gut Kötschau underwent several changes as an experimental farm. In 1992 it was privatized again.

The former historic inn Kötschau is located on Bundesstraße 7 . It was built at the end of the 17th century, as evidenced by the year 1698 found on the masonry. From a dilapidated condition, the house with its 17 rooms has been carefully and lovingly restored by the Meixner family from Jena since 2008. The inn was also popular with Goethe, his wife Christiane and wife von Stein.
