Küefer-Martis-Huus in Ruggell

The Küefer-Martis-Huus is a Rheintaler farmhouse built in 1731 in the Liechtenstein municipality of Ruggell . It got its name from Martin Biedermann, who bought it in 1862 and was nicknamed Küefer Marti . The house is a listed building and has served as a museum and cultural center for the municipality of Ruggell since 2002.

history

Ground plan of the Küefer-Martis-Huus before the turn of the millennium. The house represents the type of farmhouse widespread in the Liechtenstein and St. Gallen Rhine valleys.

The Küefer-Martis-Huus was built in 1731 as a baroque farmhouse. In the attached barn a small farm was run as a sideline for generations . In 1862 Johann Jakob Heeb sold the house to Martin Biedermann, who was known as Küefer Marti . The name goes back to his grandfather Josef Biedermann, who worked as a cooper . Instead of another previous arbor on the eaves side of the house, an extension with a cooper's workshop was built in the 19th century.

The house, which was inhabited until 1993, was acquired by the municipality of Ruggell in 1997 and listed as a historical monument in March 1999 . The barn was demolished and replaced by the “Kultur tenn ”, a modern building made of wood and exposed concrete. The ground floor, consisting of a kitchen, living room with tiled stove and bedroom, has been restored true to the original and furnished with old furnishings.

Todays use

The Küefer-Martis-Huus serves the community of Ruggell as a cultural center and meeting center. A part-time position has been created to organize the event and exhibition program. In view of the proximity to the Rhine, the focus of many exhibitions is on water.
