Artist group 50

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On August 7, 1950, the artist group 50 (also group 50 or at the beginning artist group 1950 ) was founded in Wiesbaden by artists who claimed “ to prove with or against the current of the times that it is possible as a group of individualists (...) to stick together successfully, lively and creatively. "

history

The artist group 50 initially consisted of members of the Professional Association of Visual Artists (BBK) Wiesbaden, who formed their own group in 1950.

Founding members

Founding members were u. a. the painter and gallery owner Christa Moering , Christian Bausch , the painter Paul Sarnowski and the painter Heinz-Rudi Müller .

Self-image

Group 50 was founded "in order to create a new artistic life (...)" and to "reject the mixing of artistic activity with economic considerations (...)", as well as "after the terror of the Third Reich " and the "Propagandistic appropriation of the homogenized culture (...) to rediscover the cultural ability of the individual" ( Werner Durth , 1988). Here, "a high degree of purely artistic pursuit and a sense of responsibility (...) should (promote) the cohesion of the members and determine the level of their exhibitions" (Paul Sarowski, 1960). It was important to the founding members to emphasize the openness towards individual artistic development, every style and every technique. For this reason, the sentence “The group is not bound by direction” was included in the statutes of Group 50 (Bruno Russ).

Regional reference

Over the years, the artist's relationship with the city of Wiesbaden has always been preserved: “The artist group 50 is a city group. She lives from the city and in the city ”and has thereby become“ part of the cultural life of Wiesbaden ”. The reference to Wiesbaden should not be misunderstood to the effect that “only exhibitions with works by local artists are thought of, but also the fruitful effect of contact with domestic and foreign contemporary art” is a focus.

Current situation

Among the 21 members are artists of various styles and techniques: "Abstractions stand next to objects, painting and etching complement each other with computer graphics and plastic".
