Jupp Jost

Jupp Jost (actually Josef Jost ; born November 13, 1920 in Hattersheim am Main , † December 24, 1993 in Wiesbaden ) was a German painter , graphic artist , sculptor and interior designer .

Life

As the son of a master painter from Hattersheim, Jupp Jost began his artistic training at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main in 1938 . From April 1943 to September 1944 he was a student in the “support classes for visual design” of the city of Osnabrück . After the end of the war , he initially received smaller commissioned works. Since 1946 he has worked with the architect Hans Busch on numerous public buildings in Germany and abroad. From 1950 Jupp Jost worked as a freelancer. In addition to works of painting, his oeuvre also includes works in glass, mosaic, cast and stainless steel. In 1976 he received a teaching position at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in the fine arts department . With his students he went on numerous study trips and excursions to Tuscany, southern France, Spain and Kenya. Jupp Jost was married and had five children. In his last creative phase he turned to acrylic painting in particular .

The great diversity of his artistic work is attested above all by the development and redesign of numerous churches at home and abroad. But other public buildings such as schools, kindergartens, town halls or the House of Encounter in Königstein im Taunus were artistically designed by him.
