history

The parish of St. Benedict emerged from the Catholic parish of Mater Dolorosa . In memory of the Benedictines from the Maria Laach Abbey , the daughter church in Lankwitz was to be consecrated to St. Benedict. After the garden city of Lankwitz was destroyed in World War II , many apartment buildings were built in the district that housed many people. So the division of the parish became necessary. Church services took place regularly between 1946 and 1952 in the St. Franziskus-Heim on Kaulbachstrasse, where the St. Benedikt parish center was later established. But the tradition was only continued again from 1956 in its own emergency church . 1966 first pastor was hired and in 1967 the curacy "St. Benedict ”was founded. In 1967 the foundation stone for the church was laid. The church consecrated to Saint Benedict was built in the years 1967/1968 according to the plans of the Wiesbaden architect Paul Johannbroer with the participation of the Berlin master builder H. Petersburs in the architectural style of post-war modernism . It forms the center of a by on July 11, 1968 Archbishop Alfred Cardinal Bengsch consecrated community center .
