Artist group Winterthur

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Winterthur artist group is an association of visual artists from the city and region of Winterthur . The group was co-founded on April 5, 1916 by Fritz Bernhard , among others , following an appeal by the later first President Emil Spühel in 1915 and today comprises around 80 artists. The group has been led by a collective since 2017 that has replaced the previous presidential system.

activity

The group is not committed to any particular style or art direction. The main activities are the organization of exhibitions, workshop and panel discussions on contemporary art and the commitment to the interests of the visual arts in the region.

The most important event is the December exhibitions organized annually since 1916 at the Kunstmuseum Winterthur . These are traditionally dedicated to the artistic creation of the region and have followed the concept since 2011 of showing a broader overview exhibition (in the Kunstmuseum and Kunsthalle Winterthur ) and a curated focus exhibition (in the Kunstmuseum).

Together with Raiffeisenbank Winterthur , the artist group initiated the Raiffeisen Kunstforum Winterthur project . The Winterthur artist group uses the Raiffeisenbank's foyer, which has been specially designed for exhibitions, as an exhibition space and receives financial contributions for it. Between two exhibitions are organized each year.

The collector and amateur artist Georg Reinhart , an older brother of Oskar Reinhart , regularly attended a class of nudes that was organized weekly by the artist group.
