Georg Reinhart (born January 10, 1877 in Winterthur ; † July 29, 1955 there ) was a Swiss entrepreneur , art collector and patron .

Life

Reinhart was born the son of the businessman Theodor Reinhart (1849–1919). His brothers were Hans Reinhart , Oskar Reinhart and Werner Reinhart . In 1904 he married a daughter of the textile entrepreneur Robert Schwarzenbach .

From 1896 Reinhart completed a commercial apprenticeship at the trading house Gebrüder Volkart in Winterthur. Stations took him to England and India, the USA and the Far East. In 1904 he became a business partner and in 1919 a senior partner.

Self-taught he continued his artistic education. From 1907 to 1939 he was Vice President of the Kunstverein Winterthur and from 1933 to 1950 President of the Galerieverein. Reinhart promoted cultural workers such as Hermann Hubacher , Giovanni Mardersteig , Niklaus Stoecklin , Karl Geiser , Frans Masereel and Hermann Hesse . In 1924 he initiated the Kirchner exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Winterthur . He collected works of French Impressionism , German Expressionism (including Karl Hofer and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner) and East Asian art.

His collection is today u. a. at the Kunst Museum Winterthur , the Kunstmuseum Basel and the Museum Rietberg in Zurich.
