The Küper or Quartiersmann is a former profession that emerged at the end of the 19th century. In the port operations he was responsible for the proper assessment and control of the goods, another focus of his activity was the storage of sea goods in the storage facilities. The name is derived from the job title of the cooper . The job title in the English-speaking world is Tallyman, which is still used today in the Germanized form Tallymann in port forwarding operations .

Quarter people were independent warehouse keepers who, on behalf of the merchant, stored, examined, sorted and cleaned goods . So were z. B. in the Hamburg warehouse district - z. In some cases until the 1980s - high-quality goods such as coffee, tea, cocoa and spices are stored and picked dry and at a good temperature (each separately) .
