The company was founded in 1978 by Rainer Küschall , himself a quadriplegic . Küschall achieved the breakthrough with the “Competition” model, which revolutionized wheelchairs with a new design and light and agile construction. The first products were made in the founder's living room. Later the company moved to a property in Allschwil . In 1986 the "Küschall of America" was founded, followed two years later by the "Küschall of Chile". However, both companies were dissolved only a few years later in order to keep the short distribution times.
