Kārlis Šadurskis

Kārlis Šadurskis (born October 11, 1959 in Riga ) is a Latvian mathematician and politician of the Vienotība party .

Life

Activity as a mathematician

Kārlis Šadurskis attended the Technical University of Riga , where he graduated with two degrees as engineer and mathematician, specializing in applied mathematics , where he also became a candidate in technical sciences, before obtaining a doctorate in mathematics from the University of Latvia . At the Technical University of Riga he worked as a senior research assistant, lecturer, lecturer and assistant professor, where he also headed the chair for probability theory and mathematical statistics and was a professor.

Career as a politician

After he was initially a member of the LNNK , Kārlis Šadurskis founded the Jaunais laiks party in 2002 , of which he was a member. In 2008 he founded another party, Pilsoniskā savienība , where he also sat on the board. In 2010 he became vice-chairman before his party was absorbed into the new Vienotība association , in which he also sits on the board.

Šadurskis was a member of the Saeima from 2002 to 2011. From 2002 to 2004 he was the successor to Kārlis Greiškalns Latvian Minister for Education and Science. Later he was parliamentary secretary in the Ministry of Defense and secretary of the Saeima. From December 1, 2011 to July 2014, he was a member of the European Parliament . He received his mandate through the Treaty of Lisbon . In 2016, he took over the post of Minister for Education and Science in the Kučinski cabinet . In November 2018 he moved up for Artis Pabriks as a member of the 8th European Parliament .
