Kōichi Mashimo ( 真下耕一 , Mashimo Koichi * 21st June 1952 in Tokyo , Japan ), often called Kouchi Mashimo or Kouichi Mashimo referred to a well-known is Japanese Anime - Director and founder of the animation studio Bee Train .

Life

In the early years of his life he showed a keen interest in photography , which is partly due to the influence of his father. He studied law at Sophia University and was involved in the creation of several commercials during his fourth year of study . Although he was unsatisfied, on November 6, 1975, he accepted a position as assistant director at Tatsunoko Production . There he worked from 1975 to 1976 on his first anime series Time Bokan .

In the mid-1980s he had a skiing accident and during his stay in the intensive care unit came up with the idea of founding a "hospital for animators". This should be an animation studio whose primary goal should not be commercial gain, but the self-fulfillment of talented artists. Some time later he founded the small, independent studio Mashimo Jimusho , which mainly created cutscenes for larger productions. In 1997 Mashimo presented his “studio-as-hospital” concept to Mitsuhisa Ishikawa, President of Production IG , who was so impressed that he immediately pledged his support for the project. This new offshoot then became known as Bee Train and ended its relationship with IG as an independent animation studio in February 2006.

In many of his productions he worked with Yuki Kajiura , who was responsible for the background music as the composer.
