CLEAR paperbacks

Profile of the series "KLAR Pocket Books"

KLAR paperbacks take up different topics, some of which are problem-oriented and some are oriented towards the interests of young people. The novels have “clear reading sections, easily understandable vocabulary and [take up] the language of everyday life”. They also have a small amount of text - rarely more than 100 pages, which are also set in a larger font. The books are therefore suitable for promoting reading skills, especially for young people with little reading experience. Accompanying teaching material appears for every novel in the form of a so-called literature index.

The idea of writing books for non-readers came from the author Annette Weber , who has since contributed many novels to this series. Her basic idea is to "make books simpler again" by "being thinner [and the writing in turn] larger so that the threshold is lighter" and "the pupils have the feeling: I can read the book". The plot must be carried out verbatim, it must be quickly clear who the characters are and it must be exciting just as quickly. Her most successful novel so far is In the chat it was still so cute! with 120,000 copies sold to date (as of 2012).

Weber also came up with the idea for the sub-series KLAR reality, in which autobiographical novels appear, which have also been prepared for pupils with poor literacy skills. There are also the sub-series Start-KLAR (for elementary school students) and KLAR-Krimi.

In addition to Weber, other well-known German authors such as Kurt Wasserfall , Florian Buschendorff , Volker W. Degener , Thorsten Steffens and, for example, singer Elli Erl (for the KLAR reality series) write for KLAR.
