Karl Josef Gollrad
Karl Josef Gollrad (born June 18, 1866 in Schonach in the Black Forest ; † November 4, 1940 at Lake Constance ) was a German painter who worked mainly in Aachen.
Life
Karl Josef Gollrad completed his apprenticeship in Constance and Munich . From 1894 to 1896 he went on study trips to Germany and Italy . During this time he had acquired the academic title of professor. Since 1898 he worked as a teacher at the Aachen School of Applied Arts and the commercial painting and drawing school of the city of Aachen, where he spent most of his life.
Works
In addition to his work as a church painter, his woodcut prints of Aachen are of historical importance, as they show the city in the state it was in before the bombings of the Second World War . Particularly noteworthy are:

- The woodcut series Aachener Türme contains 11 depictions of Aachen city gates and towers in their state from the 17th and 18th centuries
