The KN Toosi University of Technology (KNTU; Persian دانشگاه صنعتی خواجه نصيرالدين طوسی; German  K.N. Toosi Technical University ) is an Iranian university in Tehran . It was named after the medieval scholar Khajeh Nasir Toosi (1201–1274). The university is one of the most renowned state educational institutions in the country. Admission to the university is strictly regulated. Entry into the bachelor and graduate programs is only guaranteed for the top 1% of participants in the university entrance examination in Iran.

history

In 1928 the "University of Telecommunications" (دانشکده مخابرات) founded by order of Reza Shah Pahlavi , this was the predecessor organization of the KNTU; thus the latter is one of the oldest technical universities in the country. In 1955 the university was further expanded under Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi . There was also a faculty for civil engineering and surveying, which was supplemented in 1973 by a faculty for mechanical engineering. After the Islamic revolution , the university was named after the Shiite scholar Nasir ad-Din at-Tusi and in 2000 the faculty for natural sciences, industrial engineering and aerospace engineering was added.
