The Kulturfabrik KUFA Lyss is a cultural center in the Swiss municipality of Lyss in the canton of Bern . The Kulturfabrik Lyss is operated by the Kulturfabrik KUFA Lyss association and is not profit-oriented.

The cultural center has a hall for 700 people and a club for 200 people. Both are equipped with a modern stage, bar and sound system. With around 50,000 visitors a year, the cultural center is the largest venue in the Lyss community and an important part of the culture in Zealand . KUFA offers around 200 annual events such as concerts, parties, student discos and theater events. The cultural center has 9 permanent employees (with ± 400 employment percent) and a team of around 150 honorary and hourly paid employees.

history

The cultural center was founded in 1998 by the Lyss youth association and initially used vacant space in a disused Créabeton factory near the city's train station. Initially the culture factory was called "Free Time" and was a meeting place for young people. The next year the Free Time was renamed Kulturfabrik KUFA and was continued semi-professionally by a group of young people. In 2007, KUFA received the notice of termination of the lease and had to vacate the building on Steinweg. The old factory halls had to give way to the large "Lyssbachpark" development.

Transition phase

After the old KUFA was closed, the temporary solution "mobile KUFA" was brought into being. In a trailer that can be opened into a house, the KUFA in Lyss moved from location to location and organized concerts and parties during one season. During the transition phase, a task force organized the planning of the new culture factory. Over the course of two years, many discussions were held, locations sought, sponsors organized, negotiations with the surrounding communities, architects engaged and the "Kulturhalle" foundation established. The groundbreaking ceremony was held in August 2009 in the presence of the media and politics.

New building

In the construction phase, which lasted a year , the new culture factory was built in the north-west of the community on Werdtstrasse, between the A6 and the Alte Aare . On the weekend of 2-4. The new building was opened in September 2010. The new building is a wood and concrete building, built according to the Minergie standard, with a photovoltaic system on the roof. Around the KUFA there are two soccer fields , the Lyss park swimming pool, 500 free parking spaces and the “KUFA” Moonliner stop on the Bern-Biel line.

Youth and social work

The KUFA is part of the active youth work in Lyss and in Zealand. In cooperation with the children's and youth center in Lyss and the surrounding area, a large part of the KUFA program is aimed at young people between the ages of 16 and 20. These are mainly disco events that the young people organize and carry out themselves in cooperation with KUFA. For schoolchildren, KUFA also offers an exciting program with the school band festival, children's and school discos and other events in cooperation with the children's and youth department. These include bar courses, DJ courses and theater by and for schoolchildren. The largest and most important part of youth and social work in the KUFA culture factory is the opportunity to work in the KUFA team. The KUFA team now consists of over 200 teenagers and young adults. The following principle applies: Everyone over the age of 16 is welcome. The young people can choose to be employed in the following jobs: cloakroom, cash register, bar, cleaning, decoration, event organization, technology (sound + light), band supervision, cooking, food stand, photographer, security, graphics, video and scribe. For many young people, KUFA is the first job and thus the entry into professional life. You will be incorporated into every job from scratch, with checklists, training manuals, and training days. In doing so, they learn to adhere to rules and duties and to take responsibility for their work. For motivated young people, there is also the opportunity at KUFA to climb the career ladder: They can be trained to become event managers, bar managers, security managers and technical managers. As such, they are responsible for their area at the KUFA events and can therefore assume great responsibility at a young age.
