Cornelia Gerstenmaier
Cornelia Irena Gerstenmaier (born April 18, 1943 in Berlin ) is a German publicist . She is the chairwoman of the Gesellschaft Kontinent eV

Cornelia Irena Gerstenmaier was born on April 18, 1943 in Berlin as the daughter of the later Bundestag President Eugen Gerstenmaier . Her mother Brigitte von Schmidt was a German-Baltic woman and had fled to Germany from Russia after the October Revolution . Cornelia Gerstenmaier grew up bilingual. She attended high schools in Stuttgart and Bonn- Bad Godesberg . At times she also went to school in England. She studied Eastern European history , philosophy and Slavic studies at the Universities of Bonn and Freiburg (Switzerland) . In addition, the Ministry of Culture of the USSR made it possible for her to spend a year studying at Lomonosov University in Moscow , where she came into contact with Russian students and other intellectuals. After several additional visits to Moscow, she was refused entry due to her contacts with dissidents.
Live and act
1966–1969 she worked first as an editor, then as editor of the magazine "Ost -problem" in Bonn. In 1970 she took part in the establishment of the "Center for the Study of Religion & Communism" in London and in 1971 carried out research on Soviet Jewish immigration in Jerusalem . In 1972 she founded the Society for Human Rights with Iwan Agrusow (1924–2012) in Frankfurt am Main , of which she was chairman until 1978. She then headed the Gesellschaft Kontinent eV and supported the Russian exile writer and publicist Vladimir Maximow (1930–1995) with the publication of the Russian-language magazine “Kontinent”.
