Bad Sulza concentration camp
The Bad Sulza concentration camp was operated from October 1933 to August 1, 1937 in an old hotel in the spa town of Bad Sulza .
concentration camp
The concentration camp was operated and financed by the state of Thuringia until July 1, 1936 . The Thuringian Minister of the Interior was responsible, who also arranged for inmates to be assigned. (One) predecessor facility was the Nohra concentration camp . The camp commandant was the police officer Carl Haubenreißer . The headquarters of the camp was occupied by the state police, while the guards were provided by the SA .
After July 1, 1936, the Bad Sulza concentration camp was subjected to the inspection of the concentration camps of the SS. Operation and financing was now taken over by the Reich. The SA / police guards were exchanged for an SS team . Albert Sauer , who later led the Mauthausen concentration camp , became camp commandant .
During the entire period of its existence, around 850 people (some several times, prisoner numbers go up to around 1,000) were imprisoned in the Bad Sulza concentration camp, including female prisoners until the SS took over. They mostly had to work in a quarry .
On July 9, 1937, the prisoners from Bad Sulza were deported to Lichtenburg , as the Bad Sulza concentration camp was abandoned in favor of the planned new Buchenwald camp with effect from August 1, 1937.
