Kabala is a city in Sierra Leone . It is the capital of the Koinadugu District and is located in the Chiefdom Wara Wara Yagala in the Northern Province .

The city lies on the road from Guinea to Freetown in a valley in the Wara-Wara Mountains.

The population grew from 4610 (1963) to 7847 (1974) to 13923 (1985) people. The 2004 census showed a population of 14,108.

Originally the Limba and the Koranko lived in the region. Are from the south Creoles , Loko , Mende and Temne and from northern Fulani and Mandinka immigrated. There was also a colony of Lebanese traders before the civil war.

Infrastructure and economy

Kabala has a hospital, an airfield and an Islamic school. The city is a market and trading place for peanuts, cassava , rice and cattle and has a market hall.
