The Brugg Group AG (formerly Cable works Brugg AG Holding) is on cable systems , rope technology , piping systems and process control engineering specialized Swiss industrial group based in Brugg . The group of companies, which operates in 16 countries, employs 1,925 people and in 2008 generated sales of 753 million Swiss francs. The Brugg Group is majority owned by the Merker, Suhner and Wartmann families.
history
The company was founded in 1896 as a branch of the Herisau sole proprietorship Gottlieb Suhner at Brugg train station, founded in 1864 . Until 1908, the Brugger branch belonged to Otto Suhner senior, the oldest son of the company founder, but was then converted into a stock corporation and the group of shareholders expanded.
Under the direction of Walter Dübi, Kabelwerke Brugg developed into an industrial company between 1911 and 1945, the number of employees grew from 60 to 500. The company mainly produced wire ropes and plastic cables for power distribution, communication and mountain railways.
From the 1970s onwards, the company developed into an internationally active group with the takeover of various companies and the expansion of activities to process control technology and pipe systems.
On April 2, 2014, the European Commission fined 11 manufacturers in a cartel for high-voltage energy cables (underground cables and underwater cables) with fines totaling almost 302 million euros. Brugg received a fine of around 8.49 million euros.
On March 1, 2020, Brugg Kabel AG, one of the previous 5 divisions of the Brugg Group, was integrated into the Italian Terna Group.

The activities of the Brugg Group encompass the four business areas of cable systems, rope technology, pipe systems and process control technology. The company is also active in the real estate sector with its own real estate company .
Cables, accessories and system solutions for power transmission and distribution
The cable systems division, which operates under the name Brugg eConnect , develops, produces and sells cables and cable systems for various applications in the areas of e-mobility, industry and wind energy .
Rope technology
In the area of rope technology, the company, with its subsidiaries Geobrugg AG, Fatzer AG, Brugg Lifting AG, has specialized in the market segments of cable cars and ski lift systems , lift systems , protective barriers, cable structures, architectural cable systems and microcables.
Pipe systems
The pipe systems division (Brugg Pipes) includes solutions for local and district heating , industry , petrol stations and system packages in the field of renewable energies.
Process control systems
With its subsidiary Rittmeyer AG, the company specializes in measurement and control technology and measurement systems. These are used in environmental, safety and automation technology, including in the production of drinking water, gas and electricity as well as in the operation of sewage treatment plants and sewer systems.
