Cabinet of Giolitti II
The Giolitti II cabinet ruled Italy from November 3, 1903 to March 12, 1905. Before that, the Zanardelli cabinet ruled , then the Tittoni cabinet . The government of Prime Minister Giovanni Giolitti was supported by liberal and socialist forces in parliament .
The period between 1900 and 1914 is commonly referred to in Italy as the Giolitti era . Giolitti was not always prime minister during this time, but he shaped her politically to a large extent. During these years Italy made great economic and social advances.
The second Giolitti cabinet opened up to the demands of the socialists and the trade unions in a way that had not been seen before. In previous years there had been riots and illegal strikes. Giolitti had repeatedly pointed out that these had not only political, but above all economic backgrounds and could not be solved simply with repressive measures, but only with dialogue and reforms. His cabinet introduced new labor law provisions, particularly to protect children and women. The laws on pension and accident insurance were also groundbreaking. The following cabinets continued the reforms in the spirit of Giolitti, until he became head of government again in 1906.
