The period between 1900 and 1914 is commonly referred to in Italy as the Giolitti era . Giolitti was not always prime minister during this time, but he shaped her politically to a large extent. During these years Italy made great economic and social advances.
The fourth cabinet, Giolitti, introduced, among other things, universal suffrage for men (before that, different types of census suffrage ). Social legislation was also important. In 1911 Giolitti started the Italo -Turkish War , which led to the Italian occupation of Libya and the Dodecanese .
