Biological problems of racial hygiene and the civilized peoples

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Biological Problems of Racial Hygiene and the Cultivated Peoples is a book that the Greek-Swiss doctor and later university professor Stavros Zurukzoglu published in Munich's Bergmann Verlag in 1925 as the 123rd issue in the series Grenzfragen des Nerven- und Geistenleben , edited by Ernst Kretschmer .

content

Zurukzoglu's work is mainly based on the work of the racial hygienist Fritz Lenz (15% of all references and quotations) as well as on the work of his Munich teachers Ignaz Kaup (4% of all references and quotations) and Max von Gruber (3% of all references and quotations).

reception

The gynecologist and pathologist Robert Meyer (1925), the Austro-American internist Julius Bauer (1926), the German genetic researcher and eugenicist Rainer Fetscher (1926) and the German anatomist and anthropologist Karl Otto Henckel (1926) praised the book as “a comprehensive examination of the theoretical foundation of breed hygiene ”. Fritz Lenz and the city medical councilor and royal Prussian chief medical officer Wilhelm von Drigalski criticized the textbook character and contradictions of the work, as well as the fact that Zurukzoglu removed the "racial hygiene concepts from German reality". Lenz's "aggressive argumentation suggests an offended feeling of self-worth when it says: 'Or does Mr. Zurukzoglu ask that I should show his race the same love as my own?'"

The Swiss doctor Carmen Andrea Pfortmüller wrote a dissertation on the work in 2007 under the supervision of the medical historian Urs Boschung .
