Kahlenberg (Mülheim)

The Kahlenberg in the south of Mülheim an der Ruhr is the last, approx. 90 m high foothills of the Rhenish Slate Mountains to the right of the Ruhr , before it flows into the Lower Rhine Plain . While the upper flat part is built on (living area with the sports field of the Mülheim tennis club on the Kahlenberg, Max Planck Institute for Coal Research and Chemical Energy Conversion ), the southern, approx. 100 m wide strip with the approx. 35 m high, partly steep slope was used Ruhr in the period between 1879 and 1913 - just like the neighboring Witthausbusch - set up by the town's beautification association as a wooded recreation area with a dense network of paths. In the meantime, however, some of these paths have fallen into disrepair or overgrown.

In the west at a height of 70 m (30 m above the Ruhr), right next to the former Stinnes-Villa Haus Urge , stands the Bismarck tower, which offers a good view of the city of Mülheim and beyond to Oberhausen to the south, west and north . Duisburg , Kettwig and Heiligenhaus offers. The Kahlenbergwald is separated from the Witthausbusch by the busy Bundesstraße 1 . However, a bridge for pedestrians and cyclists connects both areas.
