Kahului
Kahului and Wailuku is a twin town in the north of the island of Maui, which belongs to the Hawaiian archipelago, and has a population of 26,337 ( 2010 census ). It is the economic center of the island.
Location, infrastructure and sights
Kahului is located on Kahului Bay and was founded in 1948 as a sugar cane town. The airport is also located here. Wailuku's landmark is the Kaahumanu Church , built in 1876, where the chants are in Hawaiian on Sundays .
In a westerly direction on Highway 32 one arrives at the ʻĪao Valley with its landmark ʻĪao Needle . Also on Highway 360, the Road to Hāna , which crosses many bridges and curves to the Koolau Forest Reserve , the unique rainforest that leads to Hana , where the Seven Sacred Pools can also be visited.
history
Wailuku means water of annihilation and is known as the site of a battle in which an army of the ruler Kalaniʻōpuʻu from the island of Hawaiʻi was almost completely destroyed by Kahekili from Maui.
