Wilhelm Kaisen Monument

The Kaisen memorial in Bremen - in the middle of the Kastanienwäldchen Am Wall / Herdentor was erected on May 22, 2012 for the 125th birthday of Wilhelm Kaisen and is included in the list of monuments and statues of the city of Bremen .

The bronze monument comes from the sculptor Christa Baumgärtel . Two steles symbolize Kaisen's development work: behind him the destruction of the war and his gaze is directed at the new houses, true to his motto: "Kiek not in Muusloch, kiek inne Sünn!"

Baumgärtel (* 1947) also made a bronze bust of Kaisen in front of the Borgfeld local office (1985), the memorial for Mudder Cordes in Kniehauerstraße (1987), man and woman (1992) and the Vegesack whale pine (1980 or 1987) ).

Wilhelm Kaisen (1887–1979) was a Bremen journalist and politician for the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). From 1920 to 1928 and 1933 he was a member of the Bremen citizenship and from 1928 to 1933 Senator for Welfare in Bremen. He spent the time of National Socialism in Bremen with his family as a farmer in what is now the Borgfeld district of Bremen . In 1945 the American occupation forces appointed him to the Senate and shortly afterwards as President of the Senate and Mayor of Bremen . Kaisen was re-elected six times. It had a decisive influence on the political and economic reconstruction of the Hanseatic city until 1965 and is a symbol of reconstruction in Bremen.
