The Kaitumälven (also Kaitum älv , North Sami Gáidumeatnu ) is a right tributary of the Kalixälven in Norrbotten County in the far north of Sweden .

The Kaitumälven has a length including its headwaters of about 150 km. Its two main source rivers Tjäktjajåkka and Kaitumjåkka flow into the western end of the 5 km² large lake Padje-Kaitumjaure ( Övre Kaitumjaure ).

The source of the Tjäktjajåkka lies west of the Tjäktja Pass and west of the Kebnekaise massif on the Norwegian border. The Tjäktjajåkka flows south to the Kaitumjaurestugorna and flows into the Padje-Kaitumjaure. The Kungsleden long-distance hiking trail runs along its banks.

The Kaitumälven flows through the chain of lakes consisting of Padje-Kaitumjaure, Kaska-Kaitumjaure ( Mellersta Kaitumjaure ) (14 km²) and Vuolep Kaitumjaure ( Nedre Kaitumjaure ) (15 km²) in an easterly direction. It continues to flow in an east-southeast direction and finally joins the Kalixälven west of European route 10 at Lappeasuando .

The Kaitumälven is still free of hydroelectric power stations. It is popular for kayaking , canoeing and fishing .
