The kakopibrillenvogel ( Tephrozosterops stalkeri ) is a species of bird from the family of spectacled birds . He is on the islands Ahiolo and Manusela in the Seram -Inselgruppe endemic . In 1910 it was described by William Robert Ogilvie-Grant as Tephras stalkeri and in 1931 it was placed in the monotypic genus Tephrozosterops by Erwin Stresemann .
features
The kakopibrillenvogel reaches a size of 12 to 13 centimeters and a weight of 15 to 21 grams. The plumage is reddish brown on top. The flight feathers and the control feathers are black-brown with reddish outer edges. The reins and the ear covers are a little lighter and more greyish. The white underside shows a brownish tint on the flanks and thighs. The under tail covers are tinted light yellow. The axillary feathers are pure white. The iris is reddish brown to brown. The beak is darkly black and horn-colored. The legs are gray-blue. The sexes look the same. There is no information about the vocalizations and the appearance of the juvenile birds.
habitat
The kakopibrillenvogel inhabits forest edges and forest areas with epiphyte growth in dense secondary forests as well as thickets and overgrown crops at altitudes between 500 and 1,200 meters. On Manusela it occurs mainly at altitudes between 650 and 950 meters.
Way of life
Little is known about its breeding biology. So far only one adult bird has been observed feeding a young bird in August. Its diet consists of seeds, berries and insects, including beetles. It moves unobtrusively and can be observed individually or in pairs, often in association with the seram-eyed bird ( Zosterops stalkeri ).
Existence and endangerment
The kakopibrillenvogel is not endangered and occurs within its small distribution area moderately often.
