Kalgan is a place in the Australian state of Western Australia . It's about ten kilometers east of Albany . The place is located in the traditional settlement area of ​​the Aboriginal tribe of the Mineng .

To the west of the town lie Napier and King River , to the north Palmdale , east to Manypeaks and south to Nanarup and Lower King .

In the south, Kalgan has about six kilometers of coastline on Frenchman Bay , with Ledge Beach about two kilometers. This coast is in Gull Rock National Park . In addition, Kalgan has 7.6 kilometers of coastline at Oyster Harbor . In addition, the Kalgan River flows through the place. History and etymology

The region around today's Kalgan was noted on the map by Dr A Collie as Kalganup. The place Kalgan was first included in a local dictionary in 1912, but land was set aside for a place as early as 1837. The place was called Wyndham on the maps of that time . In 1912 the decision was made to rename the place Kalgan, as the Wyndham already existed in the Kimberley region. The name Kaganup comes from the language of the Mineng and means something like place of many waters .

The town of Kalgan had a population of 806 people in 2016, of which 49.1% male and 50.9% female. 2.1% (17 people) are Aborigines or Torres Strait Islanders .
