Kalibangan ( Hindi : काली बंगा Kālī Baṅgā ) is a village and a historical archaeological site in the Hanumangarh district in northern Rajasthan ( India ).

The place is primarily known as an archaeological site of the Indus culture (approx. 2500-1800 BC). Two phases could be distinguished, the former belonging to the period before the arrival of the Indus civilization. At that time the place was already fortified. The subsequent city of the Indus culture consisted of two parts. To the west was a fortified citadel , which in turn was divided into two parts. Both areas were separated by a wall, which in turn had towers. In the east was the approx. 200 × 300 m large residential town. It was almost rectangular and also surrounded by a wall. There were towers at each corner. So far, two city gates, one in the north and one in the west, have been located. The urban area was criss-crossed by streets that crossed at right angles.

Excavations took place here from 1960 to 1969 under the direction of BB Lal and BK Thapar for the Archaeological Survey of India .
