Kalle Käsper (born May 2, 1952 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian writer .

life and work

Käsper started out as a humorist and worked for a time in the theater, at the same time he published his first poems. However, he achieved greater fame with his prose .

His most striking work is the eight-part novel series Die Buridans (2005–2014), which extends from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century and depicts the ramified chronicle of a family caught between Estonia and Russia. The novel has been praised as a “good, old realistic-naturalistic family novel” and has been brought closer to Thomas Mann's Buddenbrooks . On the other hand, there are certainly critical voices about the series of novels, and other books by the author have received negative reviews from time to time.

Kalle Käsper was married to the Armenian writer Gohar Markosjan-Käsper (1949–2015) who wrote in Russian and is a member of the Estonian Writers ' Union .
