Kallinikos I († 705 in Rome ) was Patriarch of Constantinople from 693 to 705. He is a saint of the Orthodox Church .

Before becoming a patriarch, he was a priest at the Church of Our Lady of Blachernae , one of the most important churches in Constantinople.

As a patriarch, he clashed with Emperor Justinian II when the latter had a church demolished to build a palace. He supported Emperor Leontios , who deposed and banished Justinian in 695. When Justinian re-conquered Constantinople ten years later, he retaliated even though he had sworn an oath not to harm anyone. He had the patriarch blinded and walled up alive in Rome. After forty days the wall collapsed. Kallinikos was still alive, but died a few days later.

Pope John VI had Kallinikos buried in the church of the apostles in Rome because of a dream in which the apostles Peter and Paul appeared to him and commanded him to do so.

The Orthodox Memorial Day of Kallinikos is August 23rd .
