The Roman Catholic Kalvarienbergkapelle stands in a forest clearing on a rocky hill north of the Upper Market in the municipality of Althofen . The sacred building consecrated to the Holy Cross is a branch church of the Althofen parish .

The Kalvarienbergkapelle is a small, rectangular, north-facing building from the 17th century that was significantly changed during the restoration in 1907. The building has arched arcades on three sides, which are closed with an iron grating from 1907. The saddle roof of the chapel is crowned by an eight-sided ridge turret with a pointed helmet. Small sacristy rooms are added to both sides of the choir square.

In the central axis of the three-axis system, a staircase in three steps leads to the high altar . In the interior, a groin vault rests on brick pillars. The wooden west gallery stands on stone pillars.

The high altar, decorated with acanthus tendrils from the end of the 17th century, bears a crucifixion group created by Johann Claus in 1685 . The two side altars were built at the beginning of the 18th century; the left has a carved antependium , the right hides a holy grave with the body of Christ in the cafeteria .

The sanctuary is separated by a baroque grille forged around 1725 .

Consuelo Mels-Colloredo painted the pictures of the Stations of the Cross leading to the Kalvarienbergkapelle in 1983.
