The crested lobster ( Panulirus homarus ) is a species from the lobster family .
The maximum body length of this lobster species is 33 centimeters. Like all lobsters, it is nocturnal and likes to hide in crevices during the day. It lives on echinoderms , carrion , worms and mussels . Their habitat is the intertidal zone, in which they are usually found at a depth of one to five meters. Occasionally, however, it can also be found at a depth of 90 meters.
The crested lobster is native to the Indo-West Pacific and occurs from East Africa to Japan , Indonesia , Australia and New Caledonia .
The lobster species is caught in its area of distribution and sold at the local fish markets.
