The Kampische Hof served as the medieval town center of the Neuenkamp monastery , from which the building complex got its name. The property came into the possession of the Cistercian monks in 1257 , who had lived in their monastery near Stralsund since 1233. The monks built a courtyard, which they used as a store of goods and as accommodation when traveling to the city. As a result of the abolition of Neuenkamp Monastery, its last abbot, Johann Molner, moved to the Kampischer Hof in the summer of 1535 and lived there until his expulsion at the end of the year. After the ReformationThe Kampische Hof first came into the possession of the Pomeranian dukes, later into the possession of the city. This rented the complex to the Swedish rulers. After 1945 the building was used as a warehouse. After 1990 the plan was to make the Kampischer Hof the home of the Baltic Organ Center (BOC). However, this requires a complete renovation.

The core of the three-winged complex around an inner courtyard dates back to the 13th century. The rear wall of the transverse building stands on the Stralsund city wall facing the Knieperteich . The plastered baroque facade of this part of the building and the arched portal originate from a renovation carried out in the 18th century.

The two wing buildings with brick facades, on the other hand, have largely been preserved in their medieval form. The north wing has two storeys and served as a business and guest house. Its gable facing Mühlenstrasse was given a different outline in the 17th century. In 1721 the internal wooden structure was renewed.

The four-storey south wing served as storage . In the Baroque era, its upper floors were combined by overlapping arched panels, and a receding half-timbered structure was built on its hipped roof . The cellar of the south wing has a ribbed vault that dates from the 14th century. Based on the different types of stone and grouting used, investigations are carried out on the long-term behavior of the stones.

The Kampische Hof is located in the core area of the city area recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage site of the “ Historic Old Towns Stralsund and Wismar ”.
