The Kamyangel rises in the hilly hinterland of Aimeliik. Some of the source streams begin at heights of around 140 m . The streams initially run to the northwest and collect in a valley between two mountain ranges, where the main river turns to the west and runs for about 2 km to the coast. It flows into the Ngchemiangel Bay southeast of Ngchemiangel .
The prehistoric installations of Ked Ra Ngchemiangel (Kamyangel Terraces) and the Aimeliik Power Station near the mouth are also located along the river .
