Kaname Island ( Japanese 要 島 Kaname-jima , German 'Angelpunktsinsel' ) is a small and isolated island in the Lützow-Holm Bay on the Prince Harald Coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It is located 33 km northwest of the island of Padda .
Japanese scientists discovered them between 1969 and 1970 during a reconnaissance flight by helicopter from East Ongul Island . The name was given in 1972. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names transferred the Japanese name in 1975 in a partial translation into English.
