The Golden Grouse ( Regulus teneriffae ) is a small songbird . Canary gold cockerel and winter gold cockerel ( Regulus regulus ) are also considered con-specific by some authors .
It differs from the winter golden cockerel in the wider black stripe over the front head, the slightly darker underside and a longer beak. The Canary Golden Grouse lives as a resident bird on the western Canary Islands , such as Tenerife , La Gomera and La Palma . It prefers forests with Canary Islands pines , but is also found in laurel forests .
