The Kanchanaphisek Bridge ( Thai สะพาน กา ญ จ นาภิ เษ ก , "Bridge of the Golden Jubilee") is a six-lane cable - stayed bridge over the Mae Nam Chao Phraya ( Chao Phraya River ) in Samut Prakan Province . It is so far the closest crossing of the Chao Phraya. The Kanchanaphisek Bridge is part of the Outer Ring Road of Bangkok (Thanon Kanchanaphisek) and was designed by the architects Parsons Brinkerhoff .
The Kanchanaphisek Bridge was officially opened to traffic on November 15, 2007 after a three-year construction period. The span of the middle section is 500 meters, its total length 941 meters. The total height is about 188 meters, the free height of the road is about 50 meters.
Contrary to plans for a toll , driving is still free until September 2008.
