Kandyba ( Lyk . Xākbi, Greek Κάνδυβα, Latin. Candyba, Candiba, today Turkish Çataloluk, colloquially still Gendibe) is an ancient place in Lycia , in the southwest of today's Turkey . The equation with the city Ḫinduwa mentioned in Hittite documents is uncertain.

location

The ancient settlement is located on a hilltop (790 m above sea level ) on the edge of the central Lycian Kasaba plain, about 13 km north of Kaş . Today's small village (740 m above sea level) is located in the south of the ruins.

meaning

Kandyba was one of the smaller cities of Lycia in antiquity, but was an independent polis with voting rights in the Lycian League and minted its own coins . In late antiquity and in Byzantine times, Kandyba was the seat of a bishopric.
