Edvardas Kaniava

Edvardas Kaniava (born July 1, 1937 in Klaipėda ) is a Lithuanian singer and social democratic politician .

Life

After graduating from the Aušros-Gymnasium Kaunas in Kaunas in 1954, Edvardas Kaniava studied for two semesters at the Lietuvos veterinarijos akademija from 1954 in order to get to the Kauno medicinos institutas without entrance exams. From 1955 to 1960 he completed his diploma as a singer with Petras Oleka at the Lietuvos valstybinė konservatorija (LVK).

From 1958 to 1993 Edvardas Kaniava was a soloist with Lietuvos operos ir baleto teatras . From 1966 to 1967 he continued his education in Sofia ( Bulgaria ). From 1979 he taught at the LVK, from 1981 as a lecturer, from 1988 as a professor . Since 2005 he has taught at the Klaipėdos universitetas . From 2000 to 2004 he was a member of the Seimas , from 2004 to 2006 he was advisor to the Prime Minister Algirdas Brazauskas .

From 1995 Edvardas Kaniava was a member of the Lietuvos democinė darbo partija , then the LSDP .

He and his wife, Barbara Abramavičiūtė-Kaniavienė, have the children Andrius and Edvardas.
