history

The state high school for girls in Kaunas was built in 1883 . The school building was built from 1883 to 1884 on what was then Nikolaj Prospect (now Laisvės al. 95). The architect of the building was engineer Justinas Golinevičius. In 1915 the school was restructured by Prof. Pranas Dovydaitis to become the city's first Lithuanian boys' grammar school . From 1923 the grammar school was named Aušros -Gymnasium on the suggestion of professor Mykolas Biržiška . In 1930 there were 559 students.

After World War II , it became the first middle school and then the Komsomol Middle School Kaunas in Soviet Lithuania . Since 1989 it has been back to the Aušros school and since 1998 it has been back to the grammar school. Since 2006 it has been a four-level school (9th to 12th grade).
