Mykolas Biržiška

Mykolas Biržiška (born August 24, 1882 in Viekšniai , Šiauliai district , now Mažeikiai district ; † August 24, 1962 in Los Angeles ) was a Lithuanian lawyer , literary historian and politician.

Life

From 1895 to 1902 he studied at the Šiauliai grammar school . From 1901 he studied at the Faculty of Law at Moscow University . In 1905 he became a member of the Lietuvos socialdemokratų partija . From 1907 he worked as a legal assistant to Tadas Vrublevskis and then as a lawyer in the Vilniaus žemės bankas . He was a contributor and editor in the Lithuanian press.

From 1939 to 1944 he was professor and rector of the Vilniaus universitetas . From June 1944 he lived in Germany. From 1946 to 1949 he taught at the Baltic University in Hamburg and Pinneberg. From 1949 he lived in the USA.
