Canonical House

The former Kanonikatshaus at the Salzburg court no. 1 in Friesach was the residence of the canons of the collegiate St. Bartholomew .

description

The Canonical House is a free-standing, three-wing monumental building with an arcaded courtyard. The core of the building probably dates from the 13th century. Traces of demolition at the end of the side wings suggest that the arcade courtyard in the 16th century was originally single-storey and closed. The two upper storey arcades with wide segmental arches and Tuscan columns were probably built in the 17th century. They are glazed today. The southern part of the east wing was added before the arcade courtyard was built. The medieval courtyard gate in the eastern garden wall was built in the 14th century.

The front of the square on the north side has a round arched entrance portal with baroque door leaves and fittings from the third quarter of the 18th century. Above the portal there is an inscription from 1674, above it a biforic window , above this the coat of arms of Salzburg Archbishop Max Gandolf von Kuenburg . The passage hall was provided in the 16th century with a needle cap barrel with a three-eighth cross ridge, plastered ridges and a small heraldic cartouche in the apex.
